12.1 - The Initiative Order
The combat is resolved in the following order with models in units acting and fighting according to their initiative order.
The Initiative order is as follows:
| Beginning of Combat | (Declare effects and weapons being used by models) | |
| Initiative 10 | Initiative (I) 10 models fight. | Hammer of Wrath is resolved (see 15.0). |
| Initiative 9 | Initiative (I) 9 models fight. | |
| Initiative 8 | Initiative (I) 8 models fight. | |
| Initiative 7 | Initiative (I) 7 models fight. | |
| Initiative 6 | Initiative (I) 6 models fight. | |
| Initiative 5 | Initiative (I) 5 models fight. | |
| Initiative 4 | Initiative (I) 4 models fight. | |
| Initiative 3 | Initiative (I) 3 models fight. | |
| Initiative 2 | Initiative (I) 2 models fight. | |
| Initiative 1 | Initiative (I) 1 models fight. | |
| Initiative 0 | Initiative (I) 0 models fight. | |
| End of Combat | Effects are resolved. Combat resolution calculated. Panic tests made. Sweeping Advance performed. |
A model fights in the Combat at the Initiative step of the Initiative order determined by its Initiative (I) characteristic. Typically, higher Initiative (I) models will fight sooner.
When a model fights at its Initiative step, it follows the attack sequence (see 12.2).
Models in a unit cannot fight more than twice in a single combat but may fight at different initiative steps.
To resolve a combat, start at the beginning of the Initiative Order and resolve each step listed in order, resolving model attacks at their respective Initiative steps as determined by their Initiative (I) characteristic.
Some models Initiative (I) characteristic can be modified by what weapons they opt to attack with or other effects and Special rule.
