Breakthrough

Core Rules, p. 59

"In any warzone, a battle will eventually take place in which the sides are forced into conflict. Their goal is to smash through the enemy lines and break through to further objectives in order to put an end to the conflict. In such occasions, the forces of the armies array themselves to smash against each other, determined to overcome each other. The Attacker hoping to open the way and the defender hoping to not only repel but drive them back."

Determine which player will be the Attacker and which player will be the Defenders. The Attacker is seeking to break the enemy lines and drive them inwards so they may continue on from this battlefield to more important goals. The Attacker will deploy second. The Defender seeks to hold the line at any cost and if able advance into enemy territory to force the Attacker back. The Defender will deploy first.

Victory Conditions

At the end of the game, each player gains 1 Victory Point for each Objective partially within their deployment zone they control. Each player scores 2 Victory Points for each Objective they control that is partially within their opponent's deployment zone. The winner of the battle is the player with more Victory Points at the end of the game. In case of a Draw, after calculating the total Victory Points of each player scored from holding Objectives, determine the number of units slain on each side. The Defender scores a Minor Victory instead if more enemy units have been slain than their own, representing they have drained the attacking forces numbers to a point they cannot continue the assault. The Attacker scores a Minor Victory if more of the Defender's units have been slain than their own, representing the Attacker having caused enough attrition that the defender can no longer hold the area and must fall back.
